This module provides a critical examination of the factors and mechanisms that can either increase or reduce the likelihood of individuals' engagement or re-engagement in extremism and terrorism. Through a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates psychology, sociology, and political science, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the principal approaches to contemporary research in radicalisation studies. They will develop a strong foundation in key theories and empirical developments in extant literature, while also gaining an holistic understanding of the limitations and methodological challenges associated with this field of study. Class activities will encompass group presentations, interactive discussions, and in-class exercises.
