To provide an in-depth knowledge of the main themes and issues related to economic development in its various interpretations, through a course that focuses on the constant interrelationship between the evolution of economic thought and historical dynamics during the 20th century, with particular reference to the countries of the Global South and decolonisation.

The course will ideally be divided into two parts: the first part will focus on the evolution of economic analyses and theories of economic development in relation to their time; the second part will analyse the relationship between these theories and the determinants of development strategies and their outcomes in the countries of the Global South during the second half of the 20th century.

By the end of the course, students will have a thorough knowledge not only of the main economic theories of economic development, but also of how these have intersected with development processes in Global South countries.
